# Amberg Navigator

Complete tunnel surveying solution loaded into one tablet

**Amberg Navigator is a field solution for tunnel surveying. If you are in need for efficient, cost-effective surveying solution without placing precision and safety at risk, then you found it.**

Amberg Navigator software installs on a ruggedized tablet. The tablet then connects wirelessly to a total station or laser scanner or both. Surveyor exports tunnel design and a list of required tasks from the office software Amberg Tunnel. Data exchange can be done via a cloud or with a USB stick.

Tunnel crew then takes over the tablet with preloaded data and follows self-explanatory workflows to complete all requested tunnel surveying tasks. With Amberg Navigator, it doesn’t require previous surveying knowledge to complete basic tasks like heading guidance, excavation control and convergence measurement.

All measured data is stored in a structured way. User can then send measured data back to the office via cloud or using USB stick.

## Frequently Asked Questions

The office module defines the design data and measurement tasks. The Tablet app controls the instrument in the tunnel, evaluates measurements and shows correction values to the design or stakes out points.

Either as an exported .at2nav file over USB (measurements return as a .nav2at file), or by synchronising through the Amberg Navigator Cloud service. Archived project elements are not exported.

A measurement task is a recurring work step (e.g. blast pattern, rock bolt, profile), always tied to a construction stage. A position task guides the operator through positioning the instrument; it is configured at project level and usable in all headings.

Blasting round scan, Layer thickness scan, Line scan, Area scan and Undulation scan. Each scanner type has its own resolution presets. On Leica scanning total stations (e.g. MS60), scan tasks need a valid GeoCOM Scanning licence.

During instrument setup, Navigator verifies the setup quality against predefined position and orientation accuracy thresholds (sigma values). If the total station becomes out of level during measurement, the operator is immediately alerted and instructed to do the setup of TS again.

Yes, there is a dedicated task called Drill Rig Positioning. It automatically measures the prisms mounted on the drilling rig machine and transfers the calculated coordinates directly to the operator’s cabin via Wi-Fi or USB.

In Amberg Tunnel, import the as-built 3D model of the previous layer (for example, the excavation mesh) and create a Navigator Point Check task. On site, start the Point Check task linked to the previous as-built layer. The software will then display the live deviation from the selected as-built surface, allowing the operator to monitor the shotcrete thickness in real time.

A total station measures two prisms on the laser scanner and a sphere prism placed about 6 m from the scanner. This gives the scan its X/Y position and orientation; tilt comes from the scanner's own compensator, which must be on and calibrated.

Leica instruments need a GeoCOM Robotic licence. Tripod automatic, Drill rig automatic and APM automatic require Leica PowerSearch, so they are not available on Trimble, Topcon or Sokkia.

Cloud licensing for the all-task bundle, Leica TS20 and L-bar prism support, touch gestures in stakeout tasks (e.g. Pipe umbrella, Blast pattern, Bolting), transfer of measured temporary control points to Amberg Tunnel, and an expiry warning.
